چکیده

Mushrooms are a group of fleshy macroscopic fungi. They have been valued throughout the world as both edible and medicine. They are highly nutritious with good amount of quality proteins, vitamins and minerals. An edible mushroom, Calocybe indica was selected to validate its nutritional and medicinal properties. Since tissue damage in hyperglycemia has been related to oxidative stress, we evaluated the enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidant status in the serum, liver and kidney since they are the target organs in diabetic complications. From the results, increased oxidative stress and decreased antioxidants might be related to the causation of diabetes mellitus. The treatment in the diabetic rats with the Calocybe indica showed an increase in the antioxidant system and decrease in the production of free radicals. The mushrooms which contain antioxidant phytochemicals has potential free radical scavenging capacity and hence can induce the antioxidant system in the body significantly reduces the generated free radicals thereby maintaining the normal levels of the antioxidants Keywords—Antioxidants, Calocybe indica, diabetes mellitus, edible mushroom, oxidative stress.

A Comprehensive Review of Tropical Milky White Mushroom (Calocybe indica P&C)

A compressive description of tropical milky white mushroom (Calocybe indica P&C var. APK2) is provided in this review. This mushroom variety was first identified in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal and can be cultivated on a wide variety of substrates, at a high temperature range (30~38℃). However, no commercial cultivation was made until 1998. Krishnamoorthy 1997 rediscovered the fungus...

Hepatoprotective Effect of the Ethanolic Extract of Calocybe indica on Mice with CCl4¬ Hepatic Intoxication

This study was undertaken to investigate the hepatoprotective activity of ethanolic extract of a wild edible mushroom (Calocybe indica) against carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) induced hepatic damage in mice. Oral administration of CCl4 (2.5 ml/ kg body weight/ day) induced chronic hepatotoxicity resulting elevated serum levels of glutamate pyruvate tranaminase (SGPT), glutamate oxaloacetate transam...

Inhibition of in Vitro Lipid Peroxidation (lpo) Evoked by Calocybe Indica (milky Mushroom)

The present study was designed with an objective to assess the inhibition of lipid peroxidation (LPO) by the aqueous extract of Calocybe indica (milky mushroom) using an invitro model of goat liver homogenate and RBC ghosts. The invitro LPO was inhibited to a good extent by the aqueous extract of milky mushroom and the extent of inhibition being higher in the RBC membrane model when compared wi...

Influence of Different Supplements on the Commercial Cultivation of Milky White Mushroom

Calocybe indica, known as milky white mushroom, grows and cultivated in the sub-tropical and temperate zones of South Asia. We investigated the most suitable supplements and their levels for the commercial cultivation of milky white mushroom. Rice bran, maize powder, and wheat bran with their different levels (10, 20, 30, 40, and 50%) were used as supplements to evaluate the yield and yield con...
